Treatment

ALLERGY SHOTS

Allergy immunotherapy (Allergy shots) is an effective treatment option for many allergic conditions. Allergy shots function like vaccines and help the immune system to develop tolerance to various allergens. Many patients are able to stop taking allergy medications after completing effective allergy shots. Small amounts of the allergen are administered to the upper part of the arm in increasing amounts for 3-6 months (build-up phase) until the optimal dose to achieve immunity is reached (stay at this dose for 3-5 years).

You will need to wait for 30 minutes in the office after receiving an allergy shot and be observed for any reaction. Allergy shots require a significant time commitment but Carmel Allergy provides convenient times including evening and weekends and will work with you to achieve your goal.

Allergy shots are effective for the following conditions: Allergic Rhinitis (Eye & nasal allergies) or Hay fever, Allergic Hives, Allergic asthma, Stinging insect allergies, Pet (Dog, Cat) Allergy, Mold Allergy, Grass Allergy, Dust mite Allergy and many more.

Because allergy shots are very effective and can prevent these conditions, they are covered by most insurance companies. Carmel Allergy will work with you to obtain the care you need.

ALLERGY TABLETS

An option if you have allergic rhinitis due to grass allergies or dust mite allergies now include allergy tablets. Allergy tablets or Sub lingual Immunotherapy (SLIT), is now approved by the FDA for treatment of grass allergy and dust mite. The approved allergy tablets include are

ORALAIR https://oralair.com/home (Sweet Vernal, Orchard, Perennial Rye, Timothy, and Kentucky Blue Grass Mixed Pollens Allergen Extract), GRASTEK https://www.grastek.com/ (Timothy grass pollen), RAGWITEK https://www.ragwitek.com/ (Short ragweed allergy table) and ODACTRA https://www.odactra.com/ (House dust mite extract).
